The Sandy Springs Conservancy presented a tree to the Sandy Springs Garden Club in honor of them being named the Conservancy’s Greenspace Champion in the fall of 2024. A disease resistant Princeton Elm was planted in February 2025 at Lost Corner Preserve in honor of the garden club. The tree will grow to be at least 50 feet tall. Many thanks to the city of Sandy Springs and Rudy’s Tree Service for securing and planting the tree.
Every year the Sandy Springs Conservancy selects and honors a Greenspace Champion announced at our Thought Leaders Dinner in the fall. The Sandy Springs Garden Club was selected for their many years of service in making Sandy Springs a prettier and greener place. Recent efforts include projects at the Sandy Springs Library Reading Garden where they installed a new brick walkway and a boulder seating reading circle for children.
The club, established in 1940, was instrumental in moving the Williams Payne house in 1985 from the Perimeter area to the grounds of Sandy Springs’ historic site and spring and helped create the lovely park that surrounds it. The club continues to decorate the outside of the house each year during the holidays and they care for the historic gardens behind the house. In 2015 they spearheaded the Daffodil Mile project next to Abernathy Greenway Park where 20,000 daffodils were planted in honor of cancer patients, bringing much needed beauty to busy Abernathy Road year after year. The club tends to the gardens at the Mann House Assisted Living Facility throughout the year and planted a Shakespeare Garden next to the Library.
