Trail Blazers Marks City Anniversary with History Walk

Sep 10, 2025 | HOME, News

The largest Trail Blazer group ever turned out for our City History walk in September!

More than 40 people took part in commemorative walk that began at the historic Williams-Payne House. The walk was part of the City of Sandy Springs’ 20th Anniversary celebration events that took place throughout the year.

Historian Kimberly Brigance started the walk sharing stories of the history of the area from native American and early settlers days through the civil war period. We also learned about how the Sandy Springs Garden Club was instrumental in saving the house and getting it moved to its current location by the natural spring that the city is named after. Then Jan Collins told the wonderful story of how the Town Turtles came about and how ultimately the funds they raised purchased the existing parks from Fulton County upon the city’s incorporation. Councilwoman Mular filled us in on the city’s plans to rent the Williams-Payne House and about the demolition on Hilderbrand Rd. Mrs. Collins then took us thru City Green to see the Town Turtles on display there for the city’s and the turtle’s 20th Anniversary this year!
